“Welcome, everyone. Especially to those watching the live streams, its a pity you couldn’t make it here.” Dr. Erilorf started her presentation and looked around the newly built auditorium. More than half the seats were empty due to ongoing bad weather and a lot of canceled flights. There had been talk of postponing but this was the right thing to do. She knew it.
“On behalf of the Kerbal Science Command a warm welcome to you too Dr. Erilorf,” Director Falanghe said. “I know you are all excited about her story but I also wanted to use this opportunity to share some of the restructurings we are doing at KSC.
“Effective immediately, Kerbal Space Command will be officially divided into four branches” he continued. “KSC Exploration will focus on the ongoing exploration of our solar system and beyond. KSC Technology Development are ground-based resources for research and development of new technology that supports this.”
He looked and scanned the room: “It is no secret that we have discovered alien life and alien technology, but what is new is that we now have two dedicated departments: KSC Alien Tech is responsible for identifying and reverse engineering alien technology so we can all benefit from it, and KSC Alien Life focusses on alien life forms and what we can learn from them.”
“Finally, regular operations in Kerbin Orbit, like crew transfer, cargo, and satellite deployment is fully left to our commercial partners. This is also true for our Mun and Minmus assets.” Representatives of Kerbal Expansion Incorporated nodded in the audience. “Our vision includes that as soon as it becomes routine, whether it is on Mun, Duna, or even Jool we will give the exploitation to commercial partners so that we can be the explorers we want to be.” After an aplause, he gave the microphone to Dr. Erilorf.
“We have a lot to talk about people!” Dr. Erilorf began. “I will cover 4 topics today: the true purpose of the great pyramid, two battles you have never heard of, and the great Kerbal uprising.” The room buzzed as she looked for her clicker to advance to the next slide.
“Let’s go back in time, approximately 5000 years ago Tut-un Jeb-Ahn constructed the Great Pyramid. The purpose was unknown until we managed to decode the writing on the inner chambers and did tests of the materials.” This the audience knew, Erilorf had spent years cracking that language.
“We discovered that exotic materials were used as the main compound and we believe that was done to create an amplifier of the Gravitec Fusion Reactor that was buried in the main chamber.”
“Dr. Arlan and Dr. Camdous successfully removed the generator from the room, which we now think was labeled burial chamber incorrectly, a better name would have been engineering.”
“There is little information on the device since it is now under the jurisdiction of the KAT, we do know it was drained and shutdown when we found it. Some residual gravity waves were still present.”
“What we do know is that it was or will be installed on UKSS for the purpose of reactivating the generator, since we believe it might solve many energy crises, but frankly we have no clue how it works, yet.” She paused.
“We noticed something odd. At the time the generator was removed from the pyramid, our sensors detected a realignment in the monoliths gravioli beams. Almost as if they were being re-aligned. This might be crucial, I will come back to this.”
“We also looked at, what I now can disclose, is Artifact 51 that was recovered from Bascilla Bay last year.” Several started taking pictures of the screens, this was news!
“There is a cavity at the rear end of the craft that has the dimensions to hold such a reactor. We believe that when Tut-un Jeb-Ahn hid his craft he took the reactor with him to create the great pyramid. But he went to great lengths to hide his spacecraft.”
“One of the discoveries we made is that the technology is unresponsive to use unless you carry a specific genetic marker. This was discovered by accident when one of our test pilots activated the consoles. We found a way to reactivate this latent marker in Kerbals that are not from Jeb’s bloodline which led to unlocking the databases of artifacts.”
“We have been able to decode data from alien devices and their logs speak of a great battle close to the Munar surface.” The picture was familiar, but the tagline was definitely new.
“The arches are the result of high impact energy weapons that blasted material up and fused it together before it fell back. They are evidence of a great battle across a large area.”
“We have found another UFO on the Mun that has been forced down by unknown means, but was still largely intact.” Dr. Erilorf drank some water and continued. “The design is similar to A51 but much larger. It is definitely an ancients craft but was crewed by ancients that were infected by Kraken.”
While the room awed at this revelation, she continued. “Kraken seems to affect the brain in the area of free will. Possibly to prevent stupid actions, or it is part of a way to control the ancients.”
“They are a resilient species! KSC-AL has worked with the samples and it may not surprise you that the recent breakthroughs in hibernation technology have their roots in this science.” That clarified a lot! The success rate in freezing and thawing Kerbals had been unusually high for a Kerbal R&D process.
“These Kraken are alive yet brain dead. Now perhaps 5000 years kills the brain, but another assumption that we are testing is that they are actually part of a hive mind. Lack of a master Kraken or just too few brethren would also explain their current state.”
“Some Kraken were connected to the engines, possibly to power it. We have been able to collect some Kraken juice, but fail to see what it could bring other than sticky fingers and a bad after taste.”
“We know that one of the UFO’s set a pursuit of A51 after the battle of the Mun Archs and crashed landed into the arctic ice. There is a log entry about static charge built-up in the logs but we are not sure what that means.”
“Most of that saucer was destroyed as was their crew, yet we learned a lot from the data once we were able to access it. It held a record of what happened before the battle at the Mun.”
“We have been able to decode the navigation logs and we are quite suprised. It’s hard to decode the course but we believe that they came from the Jool system, less than 8 days before they were at the Mun.” The room now exploded! Kerbal probes took 2 years to travel that distance.
“There is more..”
“The flight log tells the tale of the battle of Jool. An uprising by the ancients against their Kraken captors followed by a large battle. This image is from their database.” This was exciting, the war had been over on Kerbin for several decades now but they all remembered the horrors of battle.
“It appears that Tut-Un stands for the planet killer.” Frowned eyebrows were visible. “Tut-Un Jeb-Ahn destroyed a large moon, the size of a planet in orbit of Jool, or close to that orbit.” She paused. “The debris created a Kessler effect in Jool orbit, meaning that spacecraft, even as advanced as the ancients could not fly there anymore.”
“The biggest chunk was Minmus,” We think that some ancients survived on this moon and once it was captured by Kerbin they traveled to our world, mixed with the local population and that is how the gene ended up in our DNA.”
“It would take decades for the meteorites to subside. Most would fall back to Jool but it also explains why there are so many meteorites near Dress. Jeb-Ahn used this period to construct his pyramid.”
“From their writings and our research, we came to the conclusion that the Monoliths work together to create stable wormholes. This was the missing puzzle! Jeb created the pyramid to close the wormhole by disturbing the gravioli network, and now it is back.”
“With the removal of the generator, or perhaps activation of latent Monolyths we have reset their working and it has re-opened the wormhole near Jool. WH-178235-A is a gateway to the stars, but what awaits at the other end?” Dr. Erilorf paused to let the dramatic effect sink in.
“We’ve opened pandora’s box, do we peek, or do we close it?”
